Tutoring
Math, computer science, physics, chemistry, and engineering — explained clearly
I tutor students in Saratoga Springs and online to help them understand the material, not just finish the assignment. At Clarkson University, I have spent two years as a peer tutor, served as a teaching assistant for electrical science, and taught an introductory college mathematics course.

Experience at Clarkson
-
Instructor · Intro to college mathematics
Led an introductory college mathematics class—planning lectures, guiding discussion, and helping students bridge high-school math habits into university-level rigor.
-
Teaching assistant · Electrical science
Supported lecture and lab: office hours, grading, and helping students work through circuits, fundamentals, and problem sets with clear reasoning instead of memorized shortcuts.
-
Peer tutor
One-on-one and small-group sessions for calculus, linear algebra, programming, and introductory engineering coursework—meeting students where they are and building confidence step by step.

What I do well
- Break problems into steps — I start from what you already know and build toward the goal, so each step feels justified rather than magical.
- Connect theory to practice — Especially in CS, CE, and math: I tie symbols and proofs to intuition, diagrams, and code when that helps it stick.
- Patient, direct feedback — I’ll ask you to explain your reasoning, spot gaps early, and adjust pace so you leave with something you can reproduce on your own.
- Exam and homework prep — Practice problems, common mistake patterns, and time management—without doing the work for you.
Testimonials
-
We received an email from [student]'s parents expressing deep gratitude for the tutoring help you provided. You had such a positive impact on [student]'s success for the semester!
— Kate Mikel, Tutor Coordinator at Clarkson University -
This semester, Owen served as my teaching assistant for a precalculus course, though that title no longer fully captures his role. In practice, he functions as a co-instructor. The course was designed to provide undergraduates with limited teaching experience through recitation sections; however, Owen quickly exceeded those expectations. He assumed his responsibilities with remarkable speed and confidence, developed and delivered his own lectures, and engages students with both clarity and enthusiasm. Most notably, he is deeply committed to his students’ success, and they respond to him with genuine respect and appreciation.
— Dan Gagliardi, Professor of Mathematics at Clarkson University -
Having Owen work through the problems with me, and explain why to do each part really helped me understand what was going on, and having him there to bounce ideas off of was much more helpful than just listening to the professor and not understanding anything.
